New Kensington Volleyball splits tri-match

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – On Saturday, October 23rd, women's volleyball hosted a tri- match with Penn State Du Bois and Kent St.-Tuscarawas. The Lions played Penn State DuBois first and lost in three sets with the scores of 9-25, 14-25, and 15-25.

Game 1

The Lions, who have been losing very close matches as of late, seemed to struggle against DuBois. For each set, New Kensington would start off strong and keep the set close, but the game would always seem to slip away from them.

Kylie DiLeo (Springdale, Pa. / Springdale) led the team with six total points. DiLeo ended with one ace, two digs, and five kills. Kayla Unger (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) had seven assists and Elliot Ferrent (Punxsutawney, Pa. / Punxsutawney) contributed with her four assists. Molly Collins (Verona, Pa. / Riverview) had three aces. 

Game 2

After losing their first match, the Lions bounced back with a victory over Kent St.-Tuscarawas in five sets. The scores of these five sets were 19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 18-25. And 15-13.

DiLeo led the team with 19 total points. DiLeo also led the team with 16 kills on 50 total attempts. Not far behind DiLeo was Ferrent, who ended with 14 kills. Unger and Bethany Baney (Apollo, Pa. / Kiski Area) both ended with eight digs, which led the team. Unger also had a team high of 30 assists to help push New Kensington to a victory. Gabby Wolfkill (Mifflin, Pa. / Mifflin) and DiLeo ended with three aces each, which led the team.

As a team, New Kensington ended with 34 kills, 45 digs, 31 assists, and 10 aces.

New Kensington Lions will face Penn State Fayette at home on Monday, Oct. 25, in their final match of the season. The first serve is at 7:00p.m.
