New Kensington lose close match against Penn State Shenango

SHARON, Pa. – On Sunday, the Penn State New Kensington volleyball team was defeated in a very close match by the set score of 3-2. Shenango won the first two sets, but New Ken battled back to push the match into the fifth set. However, it was not enough as the home team went on to take the decisive game.

Freshman Kylie DiLeo (Sprindale, Pa./ Springdale) and Elliott Ferrent (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) each had ten kills for New Kensington with DiLeo also contributing on the defensive end with 16 digs. Gabby Wolfkill (Mifflin, Pa./ Mifflin) also added nine kills. Freshman Kayla Unger (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) led the team in total assists with 27 and also added 14 digs. Ally Albert (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) picked up 13 digs.  

As a team, the Lions fought hard and almost came back to win this match in five sets. The Lions ended with 60 digs and 39 kills.

The Lions will face Penn State Greater Allegheny on Wednesday, October 6th. The first serve is scheduled to be at 7:00p.m at the New Kensington Athletic Center.
