Volleyball Takes Home Win in Season Opener

Youngwood, Pa. – On Thursday night, the Penn State New Kensington volleyball team matched up with Westmoreland County Community College for their first game of the fall 2021 season and walked away with a victory.

New Kensington won in straight sets with the scores of 25-22, 25-10, and 25-21. As a team, they had 33 kills, 50 digs, and 11 aces.

Freshman Elliott Ferrent (Punxsutawney, Pa. / Punxsutawney) led the team offensively with 13 kills and also added ten digs and an ace. Fellow freshmen Kylie DiLeo (Springdale, Pa./Springdale) and Gabby Wolfkill (Mifflin, Pa./Mifflin) added nine and eight kills, respectively. Kayla Unger (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) also added to the stat sheet with 28 assists, four digs, and two kills. Bethany Baney (Apollo, Pa./ Kiski Area) contributed a team-high 17 digs and five aces.

The Lions will look to continue their win streak when they travel to Kent State – Tuscarawas on Friday, Sept. 10. The first serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
