Lady Lions Run Out of Gas, Lose Lead Late to PSU Mont Alto

New Kensington, PA- The Lady Lions welcomed Penn State Mont Alto to the athletic center yesterday afternoon for a PSUAC West showdown.

New Kensington fell behind 10-9 after the first quarter, but held Mont Alto to only four points in the second on their way to an 18-14 lead at the half. The Lady Lions maintained their lead for the majority of the second half, until Mont Alto went ahead 31-30 with just over seven minutes left in the game.

New Kensington would respond with a 6-2 run to retake the lead at 36-33 on a layup by freshman forward, Esther Cole (Brooklyn, NY) with 4:21 to go. Mont Alto would make their next two shot attempts, retaking the lead at 37-36. The Lady Lions tied things up on a free throw by sophomore guard, Destiny Batiste (Thibodaux, La) on the next possession but didn't have enough left in the tank on their way to a 44-41 loss.

The Lady Lions were led by another double-double effort from Cole, finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Destiny Batiste added 14 points and 7 rebounds, while fellow freshman guard Najah Perryman (Woodbridge, Va) added 12 points and seven boards of her own.
