Lady Lions Can’t Overcome Cold Spell, Fall to PSU Shenango

Sharon, PA- New Kensington traveled to Sharon, PA yesterday afternoon to take on Penn State Shenango in a PSUAC West matchup.

The Lady Lions started strong, leading 8-7 after the first five minutes of play. The Lady Lions missed seven of their next eight shots as Shenango went on a 19-2 run over the remainder of the quarter to take a 26-10 lead.

New Kensington never recovered from that early cold spell, as they played from behind the rest of the way. Shenango converted 24 Lady Lion turnovers into 18 points on their way to an 82-52 victory.

The Lady Lions were paced by sophomore point guard Destiny Batiste (Thibodaux, LA) who had a very efficient 26 points and 8 rebounds, on 9-17 from the field. Shooting guard Najah Perryman (Woodbridge, VA) finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing a team high 14 boards, while forwards Esther Cole (Brooklyn, NY) and Shaylynne Boitnott (Meadville, PA) chipped in 6 points apiece.

New Kensington will take to the road again this Tuesday, January 31st as they travel south to Youngwood, PA for a matchup with Westmoreland County Community College.
