Lady Lions Fall Behind Early, Late Rally Comes Up Short

Lady Lions Fall Behind Early, Late Rally Comes Up Short

Du Bois, PA- The Lady Lions traveled to Penn State Du Bois yesterday afternoon for a PSUAC West showdown.

Du Bois took an early lead, but things remained close throughout the first 6 plus minutes of play. The Lady Lions went cold the rest of the first and Du Bois capitalized by ending the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 23-12 lead. New Ken continued to struggle in the second, on their way to a 41-24 deficit at the break.

The Lady Lions showed resolve, opening the second half on a 10-3 of their own to get the lead down to 44-34 with just over 3 and half to play in the third. New Ken continued to fight, finally cutting the lead to single digits with 2 minutes left in the game. Unfortunately, that's as close they'd get en route to a 66-56 loss.

Three Lady Lions scored in double figures on the day, led by freshmen guard Najah Perryman's (Woodbrige, PA) 20 point, 8 rebound effort. Senior forward Shaylynne Boitnott (Meadville, PA) added 16 points and 5 rebounds, while sophomore guard Destiny Batiste (Thibodaux, LA) chipped in 11 points and 6 boards. Freshman forward Esther Cole (Brooklyn, NY) made her presence known on the glass, grabbing a team high 13 rebounds.

New Kensington will look to get back in the win column this Tuesday, January 24th as they host Penn State Fayette at the athletic center in another conference matchup.
