Lady Lions Fall Behind Early, Can’t Recover

New Kensington, PA- The Lady Lions welcomed Penn State Lehigh Valley to the Athletic Center Sunday afternoon for their second PSUAC contest in as many days.

New Kensington fell behind early, being outscored 26-10 in the first quarter alone. Lehigh Valley stayed hot from the field in the second quarter on their way to a 56-20 lead at the break.

The Lady Lions did have a better second half from an offensive standpoint, shooting 43% from the field as opposed to the 32% they shot in the first 20 minutes of game play. Unfortunately, New Kensington had issues with ball security all afternoon, turning it over 32 times and resulting in 39 points for Lehigh Valley on their way to a 105-53 victory.

Three Lady Lions scored in double figures on the day, with Senior forward Shaylynne Boitnott (Meadville, PA) leading the way with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Freshmen guard Najah Perryman (Woodbridge, VA) added 14 points knocking down 4 threes, while freshmen forward Esther Cole (Brooklyn, NY) scored 10 points and led the team with 9 rebounds.

New Kensington will be back in action this Wednesday, January 18th when they travel to Monaca, PA to take on first place Penn State Beaver in a conference matchup.
