Lady Lions Struggle in Second Half, Fall to Brandywine

New Kensington, PA- The Lady Lions finally returned from Christmas break Saturday afternoon, as they welcomed Penn State Brandywine to the athletic center.


New Kensington kept things close to start but fell behind as Brandywine used a 17-2 run to take a 23-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Lions started the second quarter strong, using a 15-6 run to cut the lead to six with just over 4 minutes remaining in the half. Brandywine responded with another run, taking a 37-25 lead into the break.

The Lady Lions couldn't get anything going offensively in the second half, as Brandywine continued to pull away on their way to a 73-39 victory.

Freshmen guard Najah Perryman (Woodbridge, VA) led all scorers, finishing with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Freshmen forward Esther Cole (Brooklyn, NY) ended the afternoon with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing an impressive 17 rebounds. Sophomore guard Destiny Batiste (Thibodaux, LA) chipped in 9 points and 8 rebounds, while senior forward Shaylynne Boitnott (Meadville, PA) added 6 points and 7 boards.

The loss drops the Lady Lions to 2-8 overall and 2-7 in conference on the season. New Kensington will look to move on quickly, as they host Penn State Lehigh Valley tomorrow afternoon in another PSUAC showdown at the athletic center.
