Lady Lions Force 26 Turnovers, Get Their 1st Win

Scranton, PA- The Lady Lions traveled to northeastern Pennsylvania last night to take on PSU Scranton in a PSUAC crossover matchup. Both teams entered the game looking for their first win of the season.

Scranton jumped out an early 7-2 lead, but New Kensington responded with a 14-6 run to take a 16-13 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Lions played stifling defense in the second quarter, allowing only 6 points on their way to a 30-19 lead at the break.

New Kensington carried their momentum into the second half, not allowing Scranton to close within 8 points the rest of the way. All in all, the Lady Lions were able to convert 26 Scranton turnovers into 22 points on their way to a well-deserved 59-51 victory.

Freshmen foward, Esther Cole (Brooklyn, NY) filled up the stat sheet for New Kensington, leading the team in both points and rebounds. She finished with 23 and 12 respectively, adding 5 steals and 4 assists on the night. Freshmen guard, Najah Perryman (Woodbridge, VA) added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists while senior foward, Shaylynne Boitnott (Meadville, PA) added 12 points and 8 rebounds of her own.

The Lady Lions will look to make it two straight as they travel down the road for another conference crossover matchup with PSU Willkes-Barre.
