New Kensington Blasts Past DuBois 9-7

New Kensington defeated DuBois 9-7 on Sunday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at seven with New Ken batting in the bottom of the fifth when Kiera Mack homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

Despite falling down by five runs in the third inning, DuBois tried to fight back. DuBois scored five runs in the failed comeback on a single by Makena Baney, a single by Abby Pentz, an error, and a single by Hanna Richey.

New Kensington got things moving in the first inning. Molly Collins drove in one when Collins doubled.

In the top of the fourth inning, DuBois tied things up at seven. Richey singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

After DuBois scored two runs in the top of the third, New Ken answered with two of their own. DuBois scored when Pentz doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run and Richey singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.  New Ken then answered when Mack singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run and Kali Barnett singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

New Ken put up four runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to an error on a ball put in play by Ashley Encarnacion and a double by Olivia Waldrop.

Madison Hoyt toed the rubber for New Ken. Hoyt went three and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking zero.

Kelsey Stuart led things off on the rubber for DuBois. Stuart surrendered five runs on four hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Megan Hyde threw four innings in relief.

New Kensington socked one home run on the day. Mack had a homer in the fifth inning.

New Ken scattered 12 hits in the game. Mack, Waldrop, and Barnett each had multiple hits for New Ken. Mack led New Ken with three hits in three at bats.

DuBois collected nine hits on the day. Pentz, Richey, and Larissa James-LaBranche all had multiple hits for DuBois.
