The Lions persevere against NCAA Division II UPJ

Johnstown, PA - The Lions used a late score and capitalized on a penalty kick (PK) in the final minutes of todays game to secure a 2-1 victory over the UPJ Mountain Cats soccer team. It was a defensive battle throughout, with both teams combining for only 16 shots  (11 for New Kensington and 5 for UPJ).

UPJ's Josh Sollars got the scoring started in the 12th minute, giving UPJ a 1-0 lead that lasted majority of the night, but sophomore Jordan Cooper (Fairfax, VA) responded in the second half by cashing in on a PK to tie the game in the 64th minute. The match remained tied until the 89th minute, when sophomore midfielder Jacob Guerrini (Lower Burrell, PA) netted the go-ahead goal to complete the come from behind victory. The win improves the Lions to 7-2 on the season. The team will look to notch their 8th victory of the season a week from today, Ocotber 11th, as they host PSU Wilkes-Barre at 4 PM.
