New Kensington Comes Up Short vs. Grove City

New Kensington, PA- The Lions welcomed Grove City College to the athletic center on Saturday afternoon for a nonconference showdown, with both teams coming off strong wins in their last outings.

The Lions took the early 17-16 lead, but Grove City stayed the course, going on a 16-6 run over the final 10 minutes of the first half to take a 32-23 lead at the break. It was more of the same in the second half, as Grove City had a response for every run the Lions made on their way to a 68-52 victory.

New Kensington struggled in the paint all afternoon, giving up 36 points down low. Grove City was relentless crashing the offensive boards, resulting in a 41-27 rebounding edge and 14 second chance points. Grove City had fresh legs all game, continually rotating in their reserves on their way to outscoring the Lions 43-16 off the bench.

The Lions struggled offensively all game, shooting only 31% as a team. Freshmen Guard Shyheim Flanagan (Breaux Bridge, LA) was the only Lion to finish in double figures with 16 points, while sophomore Aubrey Feaster the II (Buffalo, NY) added 9 points and 7 rebounds. Freshmen guard Ta'Rasi Means (Plum, PA) had 6 points in only 8 minutes off the bench before exiting the game with an injury early in the first half.

The Lions will look to right the ship this Monday, December 19th as they travel to Steubenville, OH to take on Franciscan University in another nonconference matchup.
