NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - Falling into a 17-point deficit just eight minutes into the game on Friday, Penn State New Kensington men's basketball was unable to overcome its slow start, losing to Penn State York 89-74.

As a result, New Ken falls to 4-4 overall, and 2-2 in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC). York, meanwhile, improves to 8-3 overall, and 4-0 in PSUAC action.

Visiting York scored the first five points of the contest, and never relinquished the advantage. A three-pointer by Michael Coleman extended the York advantage to 25-8 with 12:16 remaining in the first half.

New Kensington chipped away at the deficit, however, with senior Joseph Dusabe (Toronto, Ont./Fox Chapel Area) sparking the offense. Dusabe hit a pair of three-pointers and notched 11 points in the opening half, while freshman Shyheim Flanagan (St. Martinville, La./Westside) added nine points to pull New Kensington within 40-35 at halftime.

The second half started similarly to the first, however, as York regained command and held a 76-52 lead with eight minutes remaining, as Deriq Brown led the way.

Although New Kensington again trimmed into the deficit, it never seriously threatened the rest of the way.

For New Kensington, sophomore Aubrey Feaster (Buffalo, N.Y./William B. Travis) led with 20 points, while Flanagan contributed 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Dusabe, who did not scratch in the second half, finished with 11 points. Furthermore, Jared Sidwell (Apollo, Pa./Harvest Baptist Academy) netted nine points, while Sammy Carey (Springdale, Pa./Springdale) had six points and a pair of steals.

York, which shot nearly 53 percent from the field and better than 48 percent from behind the arc, was led by Brown, who notched 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Coleman added 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Connor Hostetter and D'Andre Davis both scored in double figures.

New Kensington returns to the court on Saturday, as it welcomes Penn State Mont Alto for a PSUAC contest at 1 p.m.
