The Lions Win First Game of Home Opener

Penn State New Kensington defeats Penn State Greater Allegheny 6-5 to open up conference play with a win.

Greater Allegheny got on the board early with a two run homerun by Henry Dickmann. New Kensington answered back throughout the game, tying things up in the fourth inning off of a double RBI by junior utility, Max Oliveri (Pittsburgh, Pa) and homerun from sophomore outfielder, Jake Wilson (Fort Myers, Fla). New Kensington found themselves down 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning before sophomore catcher Nick Osborne (Hermitage Pa.) launched a game winning homerun, bringing in three runs.

Sophomore pitcher Lucas Springer (Stow, Ohio) was the winning pitcher for the Lions, allowing four runs on eight hits through 6.1 innings. Springer also had three strikeouts to just two walks.

Kaleb Edwards was the losing pitcher for Greater Allegheny, surrendering three runs on 8 hits and tallying 6 strikeouts through 6 innings.

Fifth year Reise Matson (Kittanning, Pa.),Nick Osborne, and Max Oliveri all recorded RBI(s) to lead the New Kensington offense.
