Penn State Mont Alto Captures Lead Early to Defeat Lions.

Vero Beach, FL - The Lions fell behind early and could not come back in a 9-2 loss to Penn State Mont Alto on Monday. Penn State Mont Alto took the lead on ground out in the second inning.

The Lions struggled to contain the high - powered offense of Penn State Mont Alto, giving up nine runs.

Penn State Mont Alto opened up scoring in the second inning, when Nathanial Smith grounded out, scoring one run.

Penn State Mont Alto scored six runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Penn State Mont Alto came thanks to doubles by Brady Bigler, Blake Orndorff, and Conner Orner, a single by Gavin Kissel, and by Jared Pine.

Tyler Moreland got the start for Penn State Mont Alto. The hurler went five innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out six.

Sophomore infielder, Eric Sonntag (Philadelphia, PA), toed the rubber for the Lions. The righthander allowed eight hits and nine runs over the fourt and a third innings, striking out one. Reise Matson, threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.

Junior Max Oliver (Pittsburgh, PA), Sophomore Zack Woolheater (Munhall, PA), Freshmen Vaugh Gallicano (Alexandria, VA), Freshmen Kater Weitzel (Butler, PA), Sophomore Dominic Fellowes (New Kensington, PA), Junior Thomas Santiago (Jersey City, NJ), Senior Tallon Auth (Pittsburgh,PA), and Sophomore Dylan Fowler (McConnellsburg, PA) each collected one hit to lead the New Kensington Lions.

Orndorff went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Penn State Mont Alto in hits. Penn State Mont Alto was sure -handed in the field and did not commit a single error. Smith had the most chances in the field with eight.
