Penn State New Kensington splits with CCAC Boyce

Russellton, PA - In two hard fought games the Lions split with Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC)- Boyce to bring home their first win of the 2023 season. The final score of the first game was 6-3 in favor of CCAC Boyce. However, in game two the Lions battled back late in the 7th inning to walk the game off 6-5.

In game one, Sophomore Nick Osbourne (Hermitage, PA) started the game for the Lions and pitched 5.1 innings giving up just 3 runs on 4 hits and had 5 strikeouts. Freshman Karter Weitzel (Butler, PA) went 2-4 with a double and scored once for New Kensington. Senior, Reise Matson (Kittaning, PA) also had a double in a 1-2 performance. The Lions finished with 3 runs on 8 hits and had a double play.

In game two, Sophomore Lucas Springer (Stow, OH) started the game and pitched 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6. Both teams started off slow, only scoring 2 runs each through 4 innings. The Lions entered the bottom of the 7th inning down two runs, Junior Max Oliveri (Pittsburgh, PA) started the rally with a single later scoring on a double by Weitzel. New Kensington found themselves down 5-4 with runners on second and third with Junior Dom Fellows (New Kensington, PA) coming to the plate. Fellows would single up the middle scoring both runs and walking the game off in dramatic fashion.
