Baseball Falls to Greater Allegheny

TARENTUM, Pa. - New Kensington baseball fell to Penn State Greater Allegheny Sunday afternoon in the final game of the series. They dropped to 4-17 on the season.

Penn State Greater Allegheny produced 11 hits to New Kensington's seven. This allowed them to score two runs in the first and one in the second. The biggest inning came in the fourth when Penn State Greater Allegheny ran across five times.

New Kensington contributed one run in the fourth before Penn State Greater Allegheny put up a pair of runs in the fifth to take the 10-1 lead. New Kensington would earn the final run in the eighth for Penn State Greater Allegheny to finish with the 10-2 win.

AJ Collins (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills) got the start for New Kensington throwing 3.1 innings and giving up seven runs on six hits. Collins walked five and struck out one. James Auberzinsky (Munhall, Pa. / Steel Valley) entered the game and threw 0.2 innings and allowed three runs on one hit, walking five. He was replaced by Alex VanMeter (Fort Myers, Fla. / Dunbar) who threw three innings and allowed no runs on four hits, walking one and striking out one. Lucas Springer (Stow, Ohio / Stow-Munroe Falls) finished the game for New Kensington, throwing two innings, walking one, and striking out two.

Penn State Greater Allegheny scored first on a passed ball. New Kensington was unable to respond until the fourth after Penn State Greater Allegheny extended their lead to eight. AJ Collins was walked with bases loaded to advance a runner home and score the first run for the men.

Penn State Greater Allegheny scored two more runs on a double to the pitcher to put their lead at nine. New Kensington scored the final run of the game when Eric Sonntag (Philadelphia, Pa. / Hatboro-Horsham) grounded out to shortstop for Braden Tristani (Sarver, Pa. / Knoch) to score. Penn State Greater Allegheny would keep their lead and finish on top 10-2.

"To improve, just working more as a team," said Luis Osorio (Bethlehem, Pa. / Freedom). "Getting our own personal jobs done to be able to help the team and just making sure we throw strikes."

New Kensington is scheduled to hit the road to take on Pitt-Greensburg tomorrow. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
