Baseball Drops Two at Greater Allegheny

MCKEESPORT, Pa. - New Kensington baseball dropped both games of their doubleheader against Penn State Greater Allegheny Saturday afternoon to fall to 4-16 on the season.

Penn State Greater Allegheny put the first points on the board with one run in the first. They ran across four more times in the second before New Kensington responded with one run in the third. Penn State Greater Allegheny would score twice more in the sixth and New Kensington added the final run in the seventh for Penn State Greater Allegheny to finish with the 7-2 win.

New Kensington was unable to score in game two. Penn State Greater Allegheny kept up their pace, putting up another three runs in the first followed by one in the third and one in the fourth. Penn State Greater Allegheny would earn two more runs in the sixth to finish with the 7-0 victory.

Game 1

Nick Osborne (Hermitage, Pa. / Hickory) started on the mound for New Kensington throwing 5.2 innings and giving up seven runs on eight hits. The freshman walked two and struck out three. Tim Morris (Plum, Pa. / Plum) entered the game and threw 0.1 innings scoreless.

New Kensington fell behind by five runs before Max Oliveri (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Penn Hills) singled in the top of the third to drive in Mario Gomez (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. / Hasbrouck Heights).

The men would run across again in the top of the seventh when Reise Matson (Kittanning, Pa. / Armstrong) was hit by a pitch to bring in AJ Collins (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills). Penn State Fayette held the 7-2 lead to finish with the victory.

Game 2

Freshman Jake Wilson (Fort Myers, Fla. / Fort Myers) got the start for New Kensington in game two and threw four innings. Wilson was charged with five runs on five hits, walking four and striking out two. He was replaced by Tim Morris who threw two innings and gave up two runs on three hits, including one home run.

Penn State Fayette scored first in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single. They would score two more runs in the first followed by another run in the bottom of the third. A passed ball brought in another run for Penn State Fayette before a homer in the bottom of the sixth would bring in the final run of the game for Penn State Fayette to finish with the 7-0 win.

"The message I'm getting is we just have to play harder," said Luis Osorio (Bethlehem, Pa. / Freedom). "Buckle down, do what they're telling us and we should be able to start winning games from there."

New Kensington concludes their series with Penn State Greater Allegheny at home tomorrow. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
