New Kensington Volleyball Ends the Season Against Greater Allegheny

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington women's volleyball hosted Penn State Greater Allegheny for the last game of the season. New Kensington dropped straight sets to the visiting team, which set them back to 0-12 in PSUAC play for the season. Overall, the women went 3-17.

Keeping a steady pace, the first set was very even. There were times when New Kensington was up on the board and thriving, and other instances where Greater Allegheny pulled to the front. This back and forth play went on until Greater Allegheny ended it at 25-23. After such a close set, New Kensington tried to make that happen again in the second, but with no such luck, the set finished at 25-13 in favor of Greater Allegheny. Heading into the third set, there was talk in the huddle of pushing to five games in hopes of getting their first conference win, but New Kensington couldn't keep up with Greater Allegheny, trailing behind 25-7.

Even though New Kensington faced a loss, the women still put up great numbers. Outside hitter Kierra Rose (Uniontown, Pa./ Uniontown) was the forefront of offense with nine kills. Following Rose, Kaylea Flick (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) and Janet Surma (Lower Burrell, Pa./ Burrell) each contributed five. Surma led in digs, seven, and Auveonna Perkins (Arnold, Pa. Valley) was right behind with six. Bethany Baney (Apollo, Pa./ Kiski Area) served up two aces.

Throughout the season, Flick, a senior, totaled up an impressive 221 kills, 164 digs, 46 service aces, and 25 blocks. Lindsey Hessom (Leechburg, Pa./ Kiski Area), also a senior, added up 344 assists in her second year as setter. She also had 62 digs and 25 kills.

New Kensington volleyball will be back in action next fall.
