Outscored by double digits leads to New Ken loss

MEDIA, Pa. – With Brandywine reaching double digits in each frame to outscore score New Kensington women's basketball in Friday's contest, New Kensington faced an 85-33 loss. 

Brandywine's victory causes New Kensington to drop to 1-9 (conference) and 2-14 (overall), while allowing the host to improve to 8-3 in conference play and 11-6 (overall). 

While holding New Kensington to no score, Brandywine broke away with an 11-point run early into the first quarter. Ryleigh Beck (Saegertown, Pa/ Maplewood) soon landed two jump shots for the visitors, putting it on the board. Brandywine continued to push ahead, connecting on 10 of 22 field goals. 

During the second, Brandywine hit 50% of shots (9 of for 18), with Amanda Floyd pacing the team for 10 points. This contributed to Brandywine going on for 17 points, while allowing nothing from New Kensington, who shot 4 of 12 within the frame. Heading into halftime, Brandywine led 47-15. 

The third quarter went the same for New Kensington, as Brandywine outscored it 21-9. As Brandywine continued to breakaway on runs, New Kensington was unable to pace with it. 

With one frame remaining and down by 44, New Kensington was only able to sink in another nine points before time was up. Beck was responsible for five. 

Throughout the contest, New Kensington attempted 12 of 54 field goals, while Brandywine went 32 for 68. Brandywine also sunk 11 from behind the arc and 10 from the line.

Beck led New Kensington with 14 points, adding six rebounds and two steals. Deshaya Chavis (Penn Hills, Pa/ Penn Hills) hit 10 points and had six rebounds. Chavis also produced the most assists, three. With eight rebounds, Auveonna Perkins (Arnold, Pa./ Valley) aided New Kensington's defense. 

Nikki Velez produced 20 points, managing to be Brandywines top scorer. Floyd paced with 16 points and led with nine rebounds. Dana D'Ambrosio totaled four assists. 

New Kensington is back in action tomorrow at 5 p.m. as Penn State Lehigh Valley hosts. Brandywine will travel to Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday where tip-off is at 6 p.m.
