New Kensington faces loss after returning to play

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – After attempting less shots than Dubois women's basketball team during Friday's matchup, New Kensington women's basketball was faced with a loss on Tuesday, 76-52. This upset will descend New Kensington's record to 1-6 (PSUAC), meanwhile moving Dubois up to 5-2.

During the first quarter, New Kensington managed to put up five points, but Dubois held it to those numbers for the remaining time, 7:12. Dubois attempted 15 field goals, sinking five, while New Kensington went for 12. At the end of the period, Dubois led 11-5.

While New Kensington was able to pace with the visitors within the next 10 minutes, it wasn't enough to fill up the gap that the first quarter created. Kierra Rose (Uniontown, Pa./ Uniontown Area) landed seven points for New Kensington and contributed one of its four successful three-pointers. Dubois got through the quarter outscoring New Kensington, and went into halftime with a 36-25 lead.

Down by 11 at the beginning of the third, New Kensington didn't allow Dubois to go on any significant runs. Ryleigh Beck (Saegertown, Pa./ Maplewood) hit seven points for the host. As before, Dubois played aggressively and converted 7 of 15 shots. New Kensington only connected on 3 of 10 field goals, but went 8 for 12 from the line. With one quarter left to play, Dubois was in front, 55-39.

Getting outscored 21-13 in the final quarter, New Kensington took to defeat. While only producing two field goals, Dubois knocked in 9 of 18. Although New Kensington put in seven free throws, Dubois' numbers were too much too match. Leading Dubois for the quarter, Leah Lindemuth contributed six points.

Compiling 15 points, Beck was New Kensington's forefront. Shaylynne Boitnott (Meadville, Pa./ Meadville) dropped in 13 points, while Rose added 10 and led in rebounds, eight. With four assists, Deshaya Chavis (Penn Hills, Pa./ Penn Hills) also paced with eight points.

Malliah Schreck was Dubois' leading offensive and defensive player. Schreck sunk 17 points and had nine rebounds. Lexey Shick had six assists and 13 points.

New Kensington will take the court again on Friday at 6 p.m. against Penn State Scranton, while Dubois while host Penn State Mont Alto on Friday.
