New Kensington to Host Lehigh Valley in PSUAC Quarterfinal

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team will host a quarterfinal match against Penn State Lehigh Valley in the PSUAC playoffs on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Valley High School. The Lions (7-6) are the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season with a 6-3 record in league play.

Junior forward Andrew Perenic (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) leads New Kensington this season with nine goals and five assists for 23 points, ranking seventh in the conference in both goals and points. Freshman forward Brady Braun (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) has six goals and five assists on the season, while freshman midfielder Nolan Johngarlo (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) also has six goals.  Freshman goalkeeper Christopher Zolet (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) has had solid first campaign, ranking second in saves with 95 and third in shutouts with four.

The Lions faced Lehigh Valley in its last regular season game on Sunday, Oct. 14. Perenic scored two goals in the 3-1 New Kensington victory, with Braun assisting on one. Junior Paul Kozuch (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) netted the other goal from the Lions on a pass from freshman Derek McCloud (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands). Zolet posted 14 saves.

Wednesday's other quarterfinal match-up features fourth-seeded Penn State Greater Allegheny hosting fifth-seeded Penn State York at 2:00 p.m. The winner of the New Kensington-Lehigh Valley game will face the second seed, Penn State Beaver, on Saturday, while the other quarterfinal winner will face Penn State Brandywine. The semifinal winners will meet in the championship game Wednesday, Oct. 31 on the main campus of Penn State University.
