Perenic, Zolet land USCAA and PSUAC weekly honors

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - New Kensington swept the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division 2 and Penn State University Athletic Conference men's soccer weekly awards for this past week of play. Sophomore forward Andrew Perenic (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) was the USCAA and PSUAC Player of the Week, while freshman goalkeeper Christopher Zolet (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) was selected as the USCAA and PSUAC Goalie of the Week.

Perenic scored five goals and had one assist in three games last week for New Kensington. In a 7-1 win over Scranton, Perenic scored his first career hat trick, following that performance with two goals the next day in a 3-1 victory over Lehigh Valley. In a loss to Beaver, Perenic assisted on New Kensington's lone goal of the game. Perenic now sits at seventh in the PSUAC with nine goals scored and 23 total points.

Zolet amassed 30 saves in goal for the Lions last week. Zolet made 14 saves in a 3-1 win over Lehigh Valley, and also had 13 saves in a loss to Beaver. Zolet has accumulated 95 saves on the season, good for 2nd in the conference and 3rd in the USCAA. His .792 save percentage lands him fourth in the PSUAC rankings.

Penenic, Zolet, and the rest of their team will wait to see who they will face in the quarterfinals of the PSUAC tournament. The Lions will host the game on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
