Broadwater Scores 1000th Career Point in Loss to Beaver

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - Senior Dorian Broadwater (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) scored his 1000th career point as the the Penn State New Kensington men's basketball team lost to Penn State Beaver Tuesday night, 67-60. New Kensington finishes the night was a 4-10 overall record and 2-7 in the PSUAC. Beaver moves to 5-12 overall, 2-6 PSUAC.

After trailing early, New Kensington tied the game up 12-12 on a Mitchell Kuczynski (Natrona Heights, Pa./St. Joseph) layup. With 5:28 remaining in the first half, Broadwater drained a jumper that propelled him into the New Kensington record books and gave his team a 27-21 lead. A three-pointer by Aboud Hemed (Beltsville, Md./James Hubert Blake) with 23 seconds left sent the Lions into the locker rooms with a 35-33 lead. 

The teams remained close in the second half, with Beaver regaining the lead at 48-42 with 11:40 on the clock. New Kensington put together a 10-3 run will all baskets coming from Broadwater that put the Lions back on top 52-51. That lead was short-lived, however, as Beaver scored ten unanswered points. Beaver held onto their lead to take the game 67-60.

Broadwater finished with a team-high 27 points. Juwan Willis (Swissvale, Pa./Woodland Hills) added 13 points and four assists, while Keith Corbett grabbed a team-leading 13 rebounds. 

New Kensington is back at home on Friday, Jan. 26, when they face Penn State Lehigh Valley. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
