Broadwater Leads Men's Basketball to Victory Over Kent St.-Tuscarawas

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Senior guard Dorian Broadwater (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) scored 38 and grabbed 13 rebounds in Penn State New Kensington's 103-93 victory over Kent St.-Tuscarawas on day two of the Villa Maria Tip-Off Classic. The Lions even their record at 1-1, while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-2 on the season.

Kent St.- Tuscarawas led the entire first half, jumping out to an eight-point lead less than three minutes into the game. The Golden Eagles stretched their lead to 18 after a made three-pointer by Gunnar Tharp with 12:39 left to play in the half. The New Kensington offense then turned on a steady 31-15 run that cut the lead to two behind 15 points from Broadwater. After a made three-pointer by Kareem Jackson, Kent St.-Tuscarawas took a 48-43 into half-time.

A jumper by sophomore Juwan Willis (Swissvale, Pa./Woodland Hills) less than three minutes into the second half gave the Lions the lead, which they would never relinquish. New Kensington shot 64.5 percent from the field in the half, getting 21 points from Broadwater and another 13 points from junior Antonio Hill (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin). 

Five Lions scored in double figures led by Broadwater's 38 and 17 from Hill. Willis put up 13 points, while sophomore Javon Turner (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) and freshman Mitchell Kuczynski (Natrona Heights, Pa./St. Joseph) each contributed 11 points. Broadwater's 13 rebounds were a team high followed by seven from Kuczynski. Turner led the team with five assists and three steals. 

The Lions travel to Westmoreland County Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
