Hutcherson Takes Over New Kensington Golf Program

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Louis Hutcherson Jr. has been selected as the next leader of the Penn State New Kensington golf program. Hutcherson is familiar with PSNK having spent two years playing basketball at the campus prior to receiving his bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown. He was also a member of the Mountain Cats' men's basketball program.

"I'm excited about the energy that Louis will bring to our golf program," said New Kensington Director of Athletics Megan Bratkovich. "It was clear right away that he understands and can teach the mentality that it takes to be a successful student-athlete on the course, in the classroom, and in life."

After serving the New Haven, Conn., community for a number of years as an educator, Hutcherson stepped out of the classroom and onto the golf course, spending time as an assistant golf professional at Laurel View and Long Hill Country Clubs, both in Hamden, Conn. Currently, he works at the Links at Spring Church, the home course for the New Kensington team.

"I'm looking forward to working with the student-athletes at New Kensington and offering them the opportunity to learn some life lessons and become more competitive on the course," Hutcherson said of his new role.

Hutcherson and the Penn State New Kensington team will hit the links this for their fall 2019 slate. Highlighting the schedule is the annual Bernie Gus Classic which the team will host at the Links at Spring Church on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
