Sprinkle Takes over Reigns of Penn State New Kensington Baseball

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington Athletics has hired Matt Sprinkle to be the next head coach of its baseball program. Sprinkle comes to New Kensington with over 20 years of baseball coaching experience and looks to take the program to the next level.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Penn State New Kensington Baseball team and look forward to the challenge of building a competitive program," Sprinkle said. "Penn State New Kensington baseball has a lot of untapped potential and I am confident there are great days ahead."

Sprinkle is coming off a four-year stint as an assistant coach at Chatham University where he helped the Cougars start their first baseball program. There, he developed the team's hitting and base-running programs as well as established community outreach and fundraising opportunities.

Prior to Chatham, Sprinkle was the assistant varsity baseball coach for five years at Pittsburgh Central Catholic where he coached numerous WPIAL All-Section players including a WPIAL Player of the Year. He got his start in collegiate coaching back in 2008 as the assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.

Sprinkle was also highly involved with the Keystone State Games as the junior team coordinator and head coach of Team Western PA. He coached his teams to three consecutive gold medal game appearances and captured the gold medal in both 2013 and 2014.

"I'm excited about the direction that Matt will take our baseball program," said New Kensington director of athletics, Megan Bratkovich. "Beyond the coaching and recruiting experience that he brings, I am confident that he will grow the young men in our program to be successful in life after college."

Sprinkle holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Waynesburg University.
