New Kensington Baseball Falls Short in Doubleheader

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington baseball took two losses against Lorain CCC, 12-4 and 13-2. New Kensington is 3-17 overall and 2-10 in the conference.

During the earlier game, Lorain CCC scored two in the first inning. New Kensington was unable to score, but got one hit by Reise Matson (Kittanning, Pa./ Armstrong) who singled to right field. Lorain CCC scored again in the top of the second and third, pushing them ahead 6-0 heading into the fourth inning.

Once again, the opposing team brought in several runs, five, and moved even further ahead of New Kensington. In response, Tyler Elliot (Jeannette, Pa./ Jeannette) singled to right field and Matson walked. Christopher Rendulic (Port Vue, Pa./ South Allegheny) then singled to right field and brought in Elliot for the score. Noah Oddis (Lower Burrell, Pa./ Burrell), who pinch ran for Matson, made his way to third base. He scored after Austin O'Hara (New Kensington, Pa./ St. Joseph) singled to right field. With New Kensington now on the board, the score was 11-2.

In the top of the fifth, Lorain CCC didn't score any runs, so New Kensington had a chance to catch up. Vinny Ribar (Apollo, Pa./ Kiski Area) singled to left field and stole second. He advanced to third after Elliot singled to right field, and scored soon after. Elliot was able to score too when Rendulic singled to left field. This put the score at 11-2, and Lorain CCC finished up the game by scoring one in the last inning.

Rendulic led in RBIs, two, and doubled.

New Kensington struggled again against Lorain CCC in the second game.

Lorain CCC scored one run in the top of the first, two in the second, and three in the third. New Kensington was only able to get one hit during each of those innings, but no runs. Heading into the fourth, the score was 6-0, Lorain CCC.

Rendulic singled to center field during the bottom of the fourth. Justin Lindeman (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) doubled to left field and Rendulic scored. Lorain CCC kept the lead, 6-1.

In the fifth inning, Lorain CCC brought in two runs and then five more in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth for New Kensington, Matson walked. Oddis walked too, and soon bases were loaded once Lindeman joined them. Matson scored when Anthonio Rhome (Monessen, Pa./ Monessen) flied out to right field. During the last inning, neither teams scored and Lorain CCC came out victorious.

Lindeman doubled and had one RBI. Rhome also had one RBI.

New Kensington will play one game on Wed., April 17 at 2 p.m. against Greater Allegheny.
