Mont Alto Leaves New Kensington Baseball with Loss

MONT ALTO, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington baseball traveled to Penn State Mont Alto this afternoon only to find themselves faced with two losses during their doubleheader, 17-2 and 12-2.

During the game at noon, Vinny Ribar (Apollo, Pa./ Kiski Area) scored for the Lions in the top of the first. He was first to bat and got on base after being walked. He advanced to second with a single by Tyler Elliot (Jeannette, Pa./ Jeannette). Ribar finally made it to home when Reise Matson (Kittanning, Pa./ Armstrong) singled. The score remained 1-0, New Kensington, until the bottom of the third.

Mont Alto stole the lead from New Kensington with four runs in the inning.

New Kensington struggled at bat during the top of the fourth, but Mont Alto didn't have the same issue. The team ran in 13, making the score 17-1.

In the last inning, Ribar scored again for New Kensington. He singled to left field, advanced to second, and made it to third when Elliot was grounded out. Matson brought in Ribar again by grounding out to third base.

Ribar scored the only runs of the game and Matson brought him in each time.

In the later game, Mont Alto took the lead early on. They scored six runs in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the second. Heading into the third, Mont Alto was up 7-0.

New Kensington scored their only runs in the third inning. Elliot got on base with a single through the right side. Matson singled right after and Elliot ran to third. Justin Lindeman (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) then doubled to left field allowing both Elliot and Matson to score. At this point in the game, the score was 7-2.

Mont Alto continued to score more runs in the fourth and fifth inning, leaving New Kensington with a loss.

Lindeman doubled and had two RBIs. Elliot pitched for 0.2 innings, but was able to strike out four in that small period of time.

New Kensington will play Mont Alto again on Tuesday, March 2 as a rescheduled game. Game time is 2 p.m.
