New Kensington Falls to Beaver in Home Opener

New Kensington Falls to Beaver in Home Opener

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - Despite Penn State New Kensington putting up eight runs in the first two innings, Penn State Beaver completed the series sweep, earning an 11-8 victory Sunday afternoon. New Kensington falls to 1-10 and 0-7 in the PSUAC, while Beaver improves to 4-7, 3-0 PSUAC.

Beaver got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first, but New Kensington turned on the offense immediately in their home opener. Vinny Ribar (Apollo, Pa.) singled to start New Ken's half of the inning and then scored on an RBI from Dylan Wiley (Murrysville, Pa.). Marc Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Tyler Kline (Butler, Pa.) picked up RBIs as well, bringing the score to 3-2 New Kensington.

Beaver scored another run in the second, but the rest of the inning belonged to New Kensington. Darius Bennis (Leechburg, Pa.) started things off with a triple, and Ribar sent him home with another single. Ribar used his base running skills to make it all the way around the diamond and score. Two walks and a double by Wiley loaded the bases for Michael Dauer (Lower Burrell, Pa.). Dauer came through with a single and brought in two runs. Russo followed up with a double, scoring Alex Polka (Vandergrift, Pa.) and putting New Kensington up 8-4. Unfortunately, that is all the runs that would come for New Kensington as Beaver pulled ahead for the 11-8 win.

Dauer had three hits and two RBI, while Ribar also had three hits and three stolen bases in the game. Russo had two hits and two RBI. Bennis and Kline also picked up two hits.

New Kensington takes a break from PSUAC action when they travel to Geneva College on Tuesday, Apr. 10. The double header is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
