New Kensington Baseball Defeated by CCAC South

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. - The Penn State New Kensington baseball team faced the Community College of Allegheny County South Sunday, losing 12-7. The Nittany Lions fall to 1-3 on the season, while CCAC improves to 2-0.

New Kensington opened up the scoring in the top of the first when Dylan Wiley (Murrysville, Pa.) walked, advanced on a balk, and then scored on a single from Jake Stackiewicz (Murrysville, Pa.). Justin Lindeman (Murrysville, Pa.) then brought Stackiewicz home on a single through the left side. Lindeman advanced on a single from Darius Benning (Leechburg, Pa.) and then scored on a base-hit from Marc Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Michael Dauer (Lower Burrell, Pa.) doubled home Bennis to put the Nittany Lions up 4-0. CCAC scored the next nine runs to take a lead New Kensington would not be able to overcome.

New Kensington added a run in each of the last three innings. In the seventh, Vinny Ribar (Apollo, Pa.) blasted a line drive double to left field, stole third, and then scored on a passed ball. Lindeman started the eight inning with a double to right field and was eventually brought home on a ground out by Russo. In the ninth, Ribar once again made things happen on the bases. After taking first after being hit by a pitch, Ribar stole second and third and was able to tag up on a pop fly to score the final run.

Freshmen Dauer and Lindeman each had two hits for New Kensington, while Russo picked up two runs batted in. Lindeman also suffered the loss on the mound, moving his record to 1-1 on the season. Tyler Kline (Butler, Pa.) pitched two innings of relief, striking out three, while Stackiewicz struck out three batters in three and a third innings of work.

New Kensington will travel to Penn State DuBois Saturday for its first Penn State University Athletic Conference games of the season. The doubleheader is slated for 2:00 p.m.
