PSNK Baseball Drops Season Opener to Hagerstown Community College

The Penn State New Kensington baseball team played their first game in 10 years on Sunday at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida. The outcome didn't go exctly as planned as PSNK dropped their season opener 16-3 to Hagerstown Community College. Despite the loss, it was a game to remeber for a baseball program that looks to return to prominence this season.

Noah Oddis got the start for the Nitanny Lions and gutted through 3 innings despite a lackluster effort from the defense in the first couple innings. HCC got a 10-0 lead after three and coasted to the finish tacking on 6 more runs. Jacob Courtley (1 inning) and Joel Goerge (2 innings) team up the finish on the mound for New Ken.

At the plate the Nitanny Lions were lead by Jake Stackiewicz who added an RBI triple in the 6th inning. Ryan Binkley, Darius Bennis, Marcus Signore, and Jacob Courtley each added a hit for New Ken.

Perhaps the most memorable part of the season opener for New Ken was when Ryan Binkley delivered a first inning single to right field, marking the first hit in 10 years for the Penn State New Kensington baseball program. Field officials took the time to recognize this huge stepping stone by announcing it and delivery the ball to the coaching staff after the game. New Ken is back in action tomorrow afternoon against Bethel College at Historic Dodgertown.
