NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - Three Penn State New Kensington student-athletes have been honored with the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award by the Penn State University Athletic Conference. Lindsey Hessom (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area), Dylan Oditt (Walton, Ky./Walton), and Alex Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) each won the award for their respective teams.
The John Fritz Sportsmanship Award is given to one student-athlete on each sports team that best displays good sportsmanship and demonstrates ethical, appropriate, polite and fair behavior while participating in athletic events and as a member of their team. The honorees exemplify the Penn State University Values of integrity, responsibility, excellence, respect, discovery and community.
Hessom, a senior business management and marketing major major, has earned the award for the second time in her career. A setter on the volleyball team, Hessom consistently represents the volleyball program and Penn State New Kensington to the highest level possible.
A sophomore defenderon the men's soccer team, Oditt keeps a level head and is always respectful of coaches, other student-athletes, and officials. Oditt is majoring in electro-mechanical engineering technology.
Smith is a freshman golfer who had a great freshman campaign. Not only was he successful, wining the PSUA Greater Allegheny tournament, Smith set a great example for his teammates in his interactions with opponents, coaches, and course administrators.
