New Kensington and Kent St. Tuscarawas Volleyball Battle It Out

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Oh. – Penn State New Kensington women's volleyball took on the Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles in an afternoon matchup. After four heated sets between the teams, the Eagles eventually got the win at home.

The first set was rocky for New Kensington, as they lost 25-11. This didn't stop the Lions from fighting back in the second set, and they defeated the Eagles 25-20. With tied sets, the winner was up in the air. The Eagles took the third set from New Kensington, but it was a close back and forth game of 25-21.

New Kensington had one more opportunity to win a set before the Eagles won it all, and for a while, it looked like New Kensington was going to take the game to a fifth set. The Lions were ahead of the Eagles by a good bit, with only a few more points until they won. In a turn of events, the Eagles gained back all of those points and came out on top, 28-26.

Throughout the tough sets, Kierra Rose (Uniontown, Pa./ Uniontown) led the Lions in kills, 14. Kaylea Flick (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) passed ten digs, while Bethany Baney (Apollo, Pa./ Kiski Area) and Janet Surma (Lower Burrell, Pa.) had nine a piece.

New Kensington will play their last away game on Mon., October 7 against Penn State Beaver. Game time is 7 p.m.
