New Kensington volleyball falls to Fayette on Senior Day

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State New Kensington women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Penn State Fayette Sunday afternoon. New Kensington drops to 7-10 and 0-7 in conference play, while Fayette improved to 16-7 and 7-1 in the PSUAC. 

After losing the first set 25-11, the Lions regrouped in the second stanza, hammering out 12 kills. Sophomore outside hitters Kaylea Flick (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Janet Surma (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) each posted five kills in the set. New Kensington held close the whole set, behind just two points at 18-20, but Fayette scored five out of the last six points to take the set 25-19. Fayette went on to win the third frame 25-14.

Flick finished with nine kills, while Surma added six kills and nine digs. Freshman Erin Tumas (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area led the defense with 13 digs and junior Lindsey Hessom (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area) had 19 assists.

The match marked the last at home for senior Cora Rejniak (Gibsonia, Pa./Deerlakes), who posted eight digs.

New Kensington will travel to Butler County Community College on Monday, Oct. 15, for a 6:00 p.m. start.
