New Kensington Sweeps WCCC in Women's Volleyball

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - The Penn State New Kensington women's volleyball team completed the three-match season sweep of Westmoreland County Community College Thursday evening. The Lions won in straight sets, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-17. With the win, New Kensington improves it's record to 7-9 and WCCC falls to 4-16. 

Sophomore outside hitter Janet Surma (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) posted team-highs of ten kills, a .429 hitting percentage, and nine digs. Sophomore Kaylea Flick (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) recorded nine kills and eight digs, while junior setter Lindsey Hessom tallied 24 assists to go with eight digs. Freshman libero Erin Tumas (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) excelled at the service line with six aces and also had seven digs. 

New Kensington will play in its final home match Sunday, Oct. 14. The Lions will face Penn State University Athletic Conference foe Penn State Fayette at 12:00 p.m.
