Women's Volleyball Splits at PSUAC/WPCC Challenge

MONACA, Pa. - Penn State New Kensington women's volleyball fell in its season opener to Community College of Beaver County but rallied back to beat Westmoreland County Community College in the second match. 

Against CCBC, New Kensington lost by set scores of 25-23, 25-14, 25-20. Sophomore Kaylea Flick (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) led the Nittany Lions with eleven kills and nine digs, while fellow sophomore Brittany Kotvas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) chipped in with eight kills and eight digs. Freshman Bethany Baney (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) debuted with a team-leading three aces and nine digs. Sophomore Lindsey Hessom (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area) and senior Cora Rejniak (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) ran the offense, collecting eleven and nine assists, respectively.

In game two against WCCC, the Nittany Lions found victory with scores of 25-17, 25-10, 19-25, and 25-19. Flick once again led the offense with eight kills while also picking up seven digs and two blocks. Kotvas had six kills, ten digs, and five service aces, while Baney paced the defense with 14 digs and also had five aces. Hessom had ten assists, and Rejniak registered nine assists and seven digs. Freshman Erin Tumas (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) led the team with six aces. 

New Kensington will host Carlow University in its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 11 with the first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
