Finn Posts Double-Double as New Kensington Falls to Mont Alto in Women's Basketball

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - Senior Erika Finn (New Kensington, Pa./Burrell) posted her fifth double-double in seven games this season as Penn State New Kensington women's basketball fell to Penn State Mont Alto, 48-32. New Kensington falls to 0-7, while Mont Alto improves to 10-13. 

Mont Alto jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter, but New Kensington went on a 13-4 run capped off by a three-pointer from Finn to make the score 15-14 in favor of New Kensington. Although Mont Alto took the lead back shortly after, the teams remained close and went into the locker rooms with Mont Alto up 22-19 at the half. Mont Alto managed to keep the Lions at bay throughout the second half, while slowly increasing its lead. Despite holding its opponent to just 48 points, New Kensington was unable to grab its first victory. 

Finn finished the game with 12 points and eleven rebounds, while freshman Hannah Berry (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) had eight points and five rebounds. Calle Zmenkowski (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) also tallied eight points. Alyssa Slancauskas (Lower Burrell, Pa./Cheswick Christian) had four points  and Brittney Wolford (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) had four rebounds and two steals for the Lions.

The game marked the last at home for the four seniors Finn, Slancauskas, Wolford, and Becca Wilhelm (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg). 

The Lions travel to Penn State Beaver Tuesday, Feb. 14, for their last game of the season. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
