Women’s Basketball Falls to DuBois

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington's women's basketball team fell to Penn State DuBois, 75-26.

The first two quarters were difficult for New Kensington, but their aggression proved otherwise. In the first quarter, Hannah Berry (Leechburg, Pa./ Leechburg) put the Lions on the board with a free throw. Berry sunk a jump shot later in the quarter which tallied her three total points. Erika Finn (New Kensington, Pa./ Burrell) made two points and had three rebounds. DuBois was up by 11 at the end of the first, 16-5. Alyssa Slancauskas (Lower Burrell, Pa./ Cheswick Christian) was the only scorer for New Kensington in the second quarter. Slancauskas put in two free throws. Although no one else produced points, Finn, Calle Zmenkowski (Cheswick, Pa./ Fox Chapel), and Becca Wilhelm (Leechburg, Pa./ Leechburg) all grabbed three rebounds. The second quarter ended with New Kensington down 30-7.

Finn excelled in the third quarter by putting up seven points for the Lions and added two rebounds. In addtion, Berry was three for four in free throws. At the bottom of the third, New Kensington still couldn't close in the gap on DuBois, 50-19. In efforts to gain more points during the last quarter, Wilhelm made a jump shot for three. Berry made two jump shots herself which added up four points.

New Kensington was led by Berry who contributed ten points. Finn was right up there with her and made nine. Finn had the most rebounds for the team, nine.
