Fayette Leads Against New Kensington in Women’s Basketball

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington's women's basketball team couldn't catch Penn State Fayette's lead in tonight's game, 83-23.

With Fayette leading for a majority of the first quarter, Erika Finn (New Kensington, Pa./ Burrell) was able to get points up on the board for the Lions, two. Finn had three rebounds as well. After a timeout called by New Kensington in the second quarter, Brittney Wolford (Lower Burrell, Pa./ Burrell) came out strong and made a jump shot. Wolford, Finn, and Calla Zmenkowski (Cheswick, Pa./ Fox Chapel) all hit two points during the quarter. At halftime, Fayette was up 48-8.

During the third, Becca Wilhelm (Leechburg, Pa./ Leechburg) sunk a three-pointer, putting the score at 52-11. Alyssa Slancauskas (Lower Burrell, Pa./ Cheswick Christian) scored two, and Finn put together a traditional three-point play.  New Kensington was down 67-16 at the end of the third quarter. Hannah Berry (Leechburg, Pa./ Leechburg) led the Lions in the fourth quarter with four points. Finn led in rebounds, five, and had three points herself.

Finn was tonight's high scorer with ten points and had 11 rebounds to add to that. Berry totaled four from the last quarter along with six rebounds. Wilhelm put in three for New Kensington.

The Lions return to play on Friday, Feb. 8 against Penn State DuBois. Game time is 6 p.m.
