Wolford, Zmenkowski Earn All-PSUAC Softball Honors

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - Two Penn State New Kensington softball student-athletes were among those honored when the Penn State University Athletic Conference released its spring all-conference awards earlier today. Senior Brittney Wolford (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) and sophomore Calle Zmenkowski (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) were both included on the first team.

Wolford, New Kensington's centerfielder, excelled in her final season for the Lions. Wolford batted .338 with 26 hits and 15 runs batted in. Her batting average was good for second on the team. Wolford went 5-for-7 with four RBI and four stolen bases in a sweep of Penn State Mont Alto on Mar. 26, 2019. Earlier that week, she produced the walk-off hit in a 7-6 victory over Westmoreland County Community College.

Zmenkowski, a shortstop and pitcher, ranked among the best in the PSUAC in a number of categories. She was fifth in doubles (10), seventh in batting average (.425), tenth in strikeouts (39), and eleventh in on-base percentage (.459) and earned run average (5.11). Zmenkowski led New Kensington in ERA as well as virtually every offensive category.  She went 4-for-7 and knocked in six runs in a doubleheader against Kent State-Tuscarawas on Apr. 10, 2019.

Wolford and Zmenkowski helped to lead Penn State New Kensington to a 9-win improvement over the 2018 campaign and a 20th ranking in the latest USCAA Coaches Poll.
