Softball Unable to Grasp Wins

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa.— In today's matchups with Penn State Fayette, Penn State New Kensington was unable to grasp a win, 6-1 and 7-2.

With two outs in the bottom of the first during the first game, Calle Zmenkowski (Cheswick, Pa.) and Erika Finn (Upper Burrell, Pa.) both singled. They were left on base after the third out, and Fayette took the lead 1-0 in the top of the second.

Fayette scored again in the third, and so did New Kensington. Teresa DeSimone (Spring Church, Pa.) singled and stole second. DeSimone scored when Abigail Michelucci (Canonsburg, Pa.) singled to center field. The score was the 2-1.

Fayette brought in four runs in the fifth inning, which put them over the top for the rest of the game.

Michelucci had one RBI.

Fayette scored very quickly during the second game, putting them up 1-0 until the scored again in the third, and then in the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth though, Hannah Berry (Leechburg, Pa.) got to first base. She advanced to second and Nicole Skokowski (Oil City, Pa.) made it to first after getting walked. Brittney Wolford (Lower Burrell, Pa.) singled right after. The bases were loaded and Becca Wilhelm (Upper Burrell, Pa.) brought in Skokowski. Fayette was still up at the end of the inning, 3-1.

Fayette scored three more runs in the top of the six and one in the seventh. For New Kensington, Alyssa Slancauskas (Lower Burrell, Pa.) pinch hit for Berry and singled to second base. Wolford tripled to center field and Slancauskas scored.

Wolford had one RBI and tripled during the game.

On Fri., April 19, New Kensington will take on Penn State Greater Alleghney at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
