Lions Take Loss to Mitchell in Softball

CLERMONT, Fl. – Penn State New Kensington's softball team took on Mitchell and East Nazarene College in today's games. The Lions fell in both, 12-4 and 11-0. This places the women 0-4 overall.

Against Mitchell, New Kensington was up to the plate first, but didn't get any hits off of the opposing team. It wasn't until the third inning that the Lions began putting players on base.

Senior Brittney Wolford (Lower Burrell, Pa.) was first to bat for New Kensington and singled to left field. Rebecca Wilhelm (Upper Burrell, Pa.) was next to reach base. With more advances made by the team, Wolford eventually made it to home, scoring for the Lions. Mitchell brought in five more runs right after. The score was then 10-1 with Mitchell in the lead.

New Kensington didn't score again until the top of the fifth. Freshman Teresa DeSimone (Spring Church, Pa.) started making plays when she singled and then stole second. Nicole Skokowski (Oil City, Pa.) brought in DeSimone with a single and advanced to second on the throw. Erika Finn (Upper Burrell, Pa.) then singled to left field and so did Lauren Torgent (Brackenridge, Pa.). With a single from Hannah Berry, Finn and Torgent were able to score. Mitchell didn't get any runs in the last inning.

For New Kensington, Skokowski and Berry both had two RBIs. Abigail Michelucci (Cannonsburg, Pa.) struck out two in the one inning she pitched.

New Kensington wasn't able to get any runs against Eastern Nazarene College in their second game of the day, even though Berry, Finn, Wolford, and Sami Grazioli (East Brady, Pa.) all singled throughout the duration of it.

Eastern Nazarene scored big in the third and fourth inning, running in five each, leading to New Kensington's loss.
