Adrian College Takes Down New Kensington in Softball

CLERMONT, Fl. – Penn State New Kensington's softball team took on Saint Vincent and Adrian College in their first two games of the season. The Lions fell to Saint Vincent, 17-1, and to Adrian, 8-0, later in the evening.

In the morning game, Saint Vincent started off the scoring with four runs in the first inning. With the Lions down 4-0, freshman Nicole Skokowski (Oil City, Pa.) got on base. Sophomore Lauren Torgent (Brackenridge, Pa.) doubled and batted in Skokowski.

The runs kept coming in for Saint Vincent in the top of the second, totaling up 13. New Kensington was unable to get on base, except for Rebecca Wilhelm (Upper Burrell, Pa.) who was walked.

No more scoring took place for the rest of the game.

Torgent doubled and had one RBI. Torgent also pitched for 3.2 innings with three strikeouts.

In the later game against Adrian, New Kensington didn't have much luck with scoring. Erika Finn (Upper Burrell, Pa.) singled to left field, and Torgent singled to center field, but no runs were scored during the first inning. For the rest of the game, New Kensington had a hard time up at bat, which ultimately led to Adrian sweeping the game.

Abigail Michelucci (Cannonsburg, Pa.) almost pitched the entire game, 4.0 innings, and struck out four in the mists of it.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow, March 6, against Eastern Nazarene College and Mitchell. Game times are planned for 3:45 p.m. and 6 p.m.
