Fayette Completes Season Sweep of New Kensington in Softball

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - Penn State Fayette took two games from Penn State New Kensington on Saturday afternoon, completing the season series sweep. New Kensington fell by scores of 11-3 and 11-2, moving the team record to 1-15 overall and 1-9 in the PSUAC. Fayette improves to 14-10 overall and 10-2 in the PSUAC to remain atop the PSUAC West Division. 

After Fayette went up 4-0 in the first inning, New Kensington scored a run of their own when Erika Finn (New Kensington, Pa.) singled home Amanda Dynoske (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Dynoske had reached on a single to start the half-inning. Fayette scored a run in the second inning to bring the score to 5-1. Morgan Williams started off the fourth inning with a triple and then reached home on a groudout by Finn. In the sixth inning, Fayette produced six runs to go up 11-2. Williams singled and Finn doubled to put two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth. Lauren Torgent hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring home Williams and wrap up the scoring for the game.

In game two, Fayette took the lead 9-0 before New Kensington scored in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Brittney Wolford (Lower Burrell, Pa.) came through with a single that scored one run. Fayette scored two more to go up 11-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Dynoske and Rebecca Wilhelm (Leechburg, Pa.) started the inning with back-to-back singles. Finn grounded into a fielder's choice that brought home Dynoske for the final run. 

Finn had four hits and three runs batted in for New Kensington. Williams had three hits, while Dynoske, Wilhelm, and Wolford had two hits apiece. 

New Kensington is back in action next Friday, Apr. 20 when the face Penn State Greater Allegheny in another PSUAC double header. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
