Finn Hits Five Doubles in Softball Split Against Beaver

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington and Penn State Beaver traded 10-5 victories in a softball double header Friday afternoon. New Kensington picked up its first win of the season and is now 1-9 and 1-3 in the PSUAC. Beaver ends the day at 9-9 and 2-2 PSUAC.

Beaver put three runs on the board in the first inning of game one, but freshman Amandy Dynoske singled to start the bottom of the first. Junior Erika Finn (New Kensington, Pa.) doubled to bring Dynoske home. After going down 5-1, Finn smacked another double and then scored on a Beaver error. Brittney Wolford (Lower Burrell, Pa.) then doubled to bring home Stephanie Schrecengost, making the score 5-3.

In the fifth, Finn hit her third double of the game and eventually scored on a fielder's choice RBI from Wolford. Rebecca Wilhelm (Leechburg, Pa.) singled and then scored on a Beaver error in the sixth. Despite New Kensington's offensive effort of the year, Beaver pulled out the 10-5 win.

In game two, Beaver struck first, going up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. Dynoske started the New Kensington offense with a leadoff single, and then scored on a single by Morgan Williams (East Berlin, Pa.). New Kensington got yet another double off of the bat of Finn, followed by a double from freshman Lauren Torgent (Brackenridge, Pa.) that scored both runners. Wolford brought Torgent across the plate to put New Kensington up 4-1 after one inning of play.

Beaver scored four runs of their own in the top of the second to retake the lead, 5-4. New Kensington responded with a Dynoske double and a walk from Wilhelm. Williams doubled, scoring one run. Then, Finn flied out allowing Wilhelm to tag up and score, making it 6-5. New Kensington started its half of the third inning with three singles by Schrecengost, Wolford, and Alyssa Slancauskas (Lower Burrell, Pa.), with Slancauskas picking up an RBI. Wolford and Slancauskas then scored on a wild pitch to go up 9-5. Williams capped off the scoring with her third home run of the season in the sixth inning.

Finn finished the day with six hits including five doubles. Dynoske, Wolford, and Williams had three hits apiece with Williams driving in three runs.  Schrecengost picked up the win in the circle for game two.

New Kensington will travel to Beaver Saturday for another double header. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
