New Kensington Softball Narrowly Misses Playoffs

New Kensington Softball Narrowly Missies Playoffs

The lady lion’s softball team finished their season yesterday with two disappointing losses, against Penn College (14-10, 10-4). Had they won just one game they would have been in the playoffs. Coming off a long weekend road trip, the lady lions struggled to put up much of an offense; scoring just one run in each of the games.

Although the team failed to make the playoffs, they still had a successful season. During the season, they defeated the eventual number one seed in playoffs, Mont Alto, along with a series sweep of Fayette, who finished tied for third in the conference. Losing key players due to injuries early in the year ultimately hindered their efforts, and hopes of a playoff run.

Lead by captain, and senior shortstop, Bridget Fisher, the team played inspired softball the entire season. Batting .462, with 19 runs, she was the catalyst for the offense. Rachel Lojas was also a key contributor, leading the team in homeruns (6) and RBI’s (22). Gabriella Miller and Claire Fisher split duties as pitcher, putting up good strikeout numbers.

Their season did not pan out like many expected it to; however they provided us with exciting games and unforgettable moments. Next season looks to provide the same excitement, with just a little more winning.
