Men's Soccer Set to Host Scranton in PSUAC Quarterfinals

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team will host a quarterfinal match against Penn State Scranton in the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 4:00 p.m.  New Kensignton (8-5) is the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season with a 7-2 record in PSUAC play. Scranton, the No. 6 seed, finished the regular season with a record of 3-8-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the PSUAC.

Sophomore forward Brady Braun (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford and freshman forward Carlos Colindres (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain) lead the New Kensington offense this season with ten goals and three assists apiece, ranking them both fourth in the conference in goals and points. Sophomore midfielder Nolan Johngarlo (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) tops the squad with five assists which puts fifth among leage leaders.  Senior goalkeeper Joshua Zakrzewski (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) has registered five shutouts on the season and is fourth in the PSUAC in goals-against-average. 

The Lions faced Scranton on Saturday, Sept. 28. Colindres scored two goals in the 3-1 New Kensington victory, with Braun adding one. Sophomore Benjamin Midlik (Hempfield Twp., Pa./Hempfield) and freshman Alonso Sanchez (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) each contributed one assist, while Zakrzewski posted three saves.

Wednesday's other quarterfinal match-up features fourth-seeded Penn State Lehigh Valley hosting fifth-seeded Penn State Mont Alto at 4:00 p.m. The winner of the New Kensington-Scranton game will face the second seed, Penn State Beaver, on Saturday, while the other quarterfinal winner will face Penn State Brandywine. The semifinal winners will meet in the championship game Wednesday, Oct. 30 on the main campus of Penn State University.
