Perenic nets hat trick in men's soccer win over Scranton

SCRATON, Pa. - Sophomore midfielder Andrew Perenic (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) netted a hat trick to help lead Penn State New Kensington to a 7-1 victory over Penn State Scranton. With the win, New Kensington improves to 6-6 overall and 5-3 in the PSUAC.

The Lions jumped on the scoreboard early when freshman Brady Braun (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) scored in the fifth minute from a pass from Nate Andrews (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic). Ten minutes later Andres scored a goal for himself to bring the score to 2-0.

Next up were back-to-back goals by Perenic, scored just 42 seconds apart. Freshman Benjamin Midlik (Hempfield Twp., Pa./Hempfield) found the net four minutes later to make the score 5-0. Another goal by Perenic, assisted by Josh Longwell (Homer City, Pa./Homer Center), in the 39th minute completed the hat trick. Junior Kubilay Ceylan (Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany/Valley Forge Military Academy) finished out the scoring for the Lions in the last minute of play in the first half with the helper coming from Marshall Utiss (Springdale, Pa./Springdale). Scranton scored the lone of the second half, finishing the game at 7-1.

Freshman Christopher Zolet (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) made three saves in goal for New Kensington.

New Kensington returns to action tomorrow at Penn State Lehigh Valley. This last regular season game of the season for the Lions is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
