New Kensington Beats Wilkes-Barre in Men's Soccer

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team beat Penn State Wilkes-Barre Tuesday afternoon, 4-1. The win, New Kensington's third in a row, improves the team's record to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. Wilkes-Barre drops to 0-2 overall, 0-2 PSUAC.

New Kensington opened up the scoring in the 18th minute when freshman Brady Braun (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) dribbled through the Wilkes-Barre defense and found the back of the net. Just 31 seconds later fellow freshman Benjamin Midlik (Hempfield Twp., Pa./Hempfield) drove home a pass from Nolan Johngarlo (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) to make the score 2-0.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Johngarlo connected for a goal of his own, striking a ball from the corner that dropped in over the keeper's head. New Kensington's fourth and final goal was scored in the 68th minute, when junior Paul Kozuch (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) converted a pass from freshman Derek McCloud (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands).

It looked like freshman goalkeeper Christopher Zolet (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) would pick up his fourth shutout of the season, but a New Kensington foul was called in the box in the last minute of play. Monou Janneh capitalized on the free shot to take the score to 4-1.

Zolet recorded eight saves in the win.

New Kensington returns for its final home game on Friday, Sept. 28. The Lions will face Penn State Mont Alto at 3:00 p.m.
